Tokio Hotel can’t wait to sing at MTV World Stage 2010

Author: RealWildChild  |  Category: Concerts, Online Media

There’s no doubt about it: Tokio Hotel is one of the biggest bands this year and they have their fans to thank them for. That’s why the boys kept gushing about you in this exclusive interview.

You guys put on a terrific show here in Malaysia back in May 2010. What do you miss most about Malaysia?
Bill: When we first came, we were so surprised because everyone was so friendly and we had a warm welcome, so we definitely missed the people and the weather, of course! But on stage, it gets a little too hot and we’re not used to it; we were on a European tour and it was cold everywhere. But it was great and we look forward to the show!

What can fans expect from your performance at the MTV World Stage?
B: This time it’s going to be bigger: production-wise and special-effects like electric shower. It’s going to be really, really cool. We did think about playing naked [laughs]. I wanted to bring my costumes with me from the European tour but I think it will be too hot. Maybe something more casual this time.

Tokio Hotel “A present for Italy”

Catania went nuts for Bill and Tom Kaulitz

Under sun and night camping

They presented at Le Ciminiere the DVD “Humanoid City – Live” filmed in Milano

CATANIA. The car with dark glasses has space among the crowd. Here them, stars are arrived. They are the today’s divas. They are Tokio Hotel. To wait, an amount of screaming teenagers from all Italy, most of them spent the night before in front of TRL stage to be in first line. Same scene in front of Feltrinelli store, many guys waited the opening to buy the only 300 copies of new Humanoid City Live DVD, filmed during Milano concert and realeased in worldwide premiere in Catania.
Vanessa, Chiara and Nadir, 20 years old girls arrived from Palermo at 4 am, but there are also girls from Vicenza and Padova who were at Ciminiere since 10 pm on Thursday. With umbrellas to protect from sun and sun-protection cream to do not burn, they waited until yesterday at 19 pm to see their idols. Absolute devotion since the band didn’t perform but simply presented the new dvd.
Only 2 of 4 band members were attending, but the most loved: Bill and Tom Kaulitz, the twins of group. The teutonic emo and the cornrows rapper. Grey shirt with vampire teeths, nailpolish, dark makeup, brilliant ring and wedges shoes for singer Bill, red squares shirt, sneakers and cornrows for guitarist Tom. They have a “pure” face and the behaviour of 2 next door teenagers.
Why did you choose to shoot DVD just during Milano date of your tour?
“We decided” – Bill tells – “because it was the final part of our tour. It was one of our best shows ever and this DVD producer made a really good job. Inside then, there is a part for backstage in which there are really funny sit-com. We love Italian fans also so we were happy to shoot our DVD just during Milano concert”.

Is this your first time in Sicily?
“Yes, and unfortunately we weren’t able to see many things: on Thursday night we didn’t sleep and today we left early, so we spent the whole day in hotel. By the way, here in Sicily it’s incredibly warm.  Actually in Germany is hot as well, but not like this”.

The New Paper (16.07.10) Singapore

TOKIO HOTEL REFUTES RUMOURS ABOUT PREVIOUS TRIP HERE

It was German pop-rock band Tokio Hotel’s first trip to Asia, after being invited here as guest performers for the Audi Fashion Festival in April.
Naturally, the four young men who had grown up in the small village near Magdeburg experienced their fair share of culture shock.
The quartet – compromising singer Bill Kaulitz, 20, his twin borther/guitarist Tom, bassist Georg Listing, 23, and drummer Gustav Schafer, 21 – even left our part of the world with “funny stories” to tell their native media.
It was reported that Tom suffered from pounding headaches and blurred vision for two days after taking an overdose of Viagra which was sold to him in Taiwan, one of the stopovers on Tokio Hotel’s recent Asian promotional tour.
On his bad experience with the little blue pill, the dreadlocked resident joker of the group told The New Paper over the phone from Germany: “Yeah I’ll be more careful (when I’m in Asia again) but it was a funny experience and I think people need that.”
“I think this time maybe Georg will try it. You see, his girlfriend is not so pretty, so maybe it’s good to take some Viagra over to Europe.”
Tokio Hotel will return to Singapore next month to perform a full concert at the annual SingFest outdoor music festival.
This year’s lineup also includes Katy Perry, Kanye West, Smashing Pumpkins, 30 Seconds To Mars and Wonder Girls.
Prior to SingFest, the guys will be in Kuala Lumpur for the global concert series MTV World Stage.
Being the reputed party-loving playboy, Tom was also taken aback by how strict a country Singapore is due to its death penalty for drug trafficking.
He said: “I told the German press about the laws. At the airport, we had to sign like a paper, that if we take drugs with us, we will be killed!”
Okay, so Tokio Hotel was clean of any illegal substances.
But Bill remembered committing an offence when he was in town – spitting chewing gum on the streets.
He said: “I forgot you can’t do it, because in Germany you do it all the time, it’s not forbidden.
“I think it was in a cab somewhere. It was funny, but I don’t want to destroy the beautiful city so I think I’ll never do it again.”

But perhaps the Kaulitz siblings’ most dramatic highlight of their Singapore trip involved another set of twin brothers.
We understand from a reliable industry source that Bill and Tom had a falling out with Dean and Dan Caten, the designers behind high-end fashion label DSquared, right before the Audi Fashion Festival which would open with the latter’s latest collection.
A miscommunication had stemmed from both sides’ minders over whether or not Tokio Hotel was to perform an acoustic set during the DSquared fashion show.
Eventually, Bill and Tom ended up watching the presentation from the front row and performed only after it.
There’s even talk that things got so heated, the Kaulitz twins allegedly threw DSquared clothes that were supposed to be part of the show along the corridor of St Regis Hotel, where they were staying.
But when asked for a clarification, Bill sounded stumped and promptly shot down the rumours.
He said: “No, no, no, we like them very much. We met them at the show, they’re really nice, funny guys and I really like their clothes.
“We see each other very often because they designed our outfits for our Welcome To Humanoid City European tour last year and I did the catwalk at Milan Fashion Week.
“We’re not unhappy with them, it’s all cool.
“We work together here and there, but it’s not like we do everything with DSquared.”

World Cup
Meanwhile, back home in Germany, the Teutonic heart-throbs have been spending the last month watching every match of the world cup – though they are “not really into football”.
Bill, ever the diplomatic front man, said: “the German team did a good job, we’re really proud of them. Third place is not too bad.”
So was he also proud of the current hometown hero-turned-international celebrity Pail the oracle octopus, which had correctly predicted the outcome of all of Germany’s matches and the finals in this world cup?
Bill cried: “I heard about that! It was quite interesting that he was right so many times. In the beginning, when I saw him on TV, I was like, okay, maybe it’s something that happens only sometimes.”
“In the end, I was totally surprised that he was right about every game. It’s kind of a wonder!”
“But I don’t know what’s happened to Paul now.”

He was referring to Germany’s eight-legged psychic being inundated with death threats.
Bill continued with a hint of empathy: “That would be really really bad, so I hope, so I hope Paul is still alive.”

Sascha: Well, then tell me what you experienced in the last weeks…
Bill: Well, we were in Asia, and uhm… yeah, we had a concert there, a small one, and we met our fans there for the first time, so to say it was the very first start..
Tom: Oh yes, that was really good.
Bill: ..that was very exciting because you fly so far and then it’s a totally different culture and totally different people, and the people can sing along though.
Tom: We had a good show.
Bill: ..yeah, we had a good show.
Tom: In Malaysia we had a real show, how long did we play? An hour or something..
Georg: Yeah..
Tom: ..and then, uhm.. then we were in Taiwan, we had a small acoustic session there. It was really good.

Youth.SG: Tokio Hotel in Singapore

Author: RealWildChild  |  Category: Appearances/Performances, Press

Passersby walking past Ngee Ann City on Wednesday might have noticed a group of enthusiastic teenage girls lining the walkway.

They were waiting for the appearance of Tokio Hotel, a German band that was in town to play at the Audi Fashion Festival that night.

Tokio Hotel has sold out tickets to their concerts in arenas and stadiums around the world, and Wednesday’s DSquared2 Fall/Winter 2010 show—while not technically their night since they took on just a 2-song acoustic performance after—was also sold out.

Along with Youth.SG photographer, this lucky fan got a shot at interviewing Tokio Hotel the next day. Lead singer Bill Kaulitz has won thousands over with his originality and beautiful voice. His identical twin, guitarist Tom Kaulitz, is a charming lady’s man through and through. And there are Georg Listing, the bassist—he’s taken— and Gustav Schafer, the drummer who wows with his muscular arms and faultless drumming. What will they say to this smitten fan?

This is Tokio Hotel’s first visit to Asia. How did you feel when you knew you were coming here?
Bill: We were really excited when we heard we were coming to Asia.
Tom: Yeah, we’d always asked our record company about entering Asia; we want to come to Asia and perform concerts and all that. For us it’s great and it has always been like a dream to us.

Will you be touring Asia soon, then?
Tom: Yeah, hopefully!
Bill: We definitely hope so. We’re just planning our next trip; I think we are visiting China in July, and we hope to visit Japan for the first time. And we will come back to Singapore, for sure.

What do you think about the girls in Singapore?
Tom: They’re very beautiful. We met some fans yesterday and played some acoustic songs.
Bill: They were so sweet yesterday. It was really cool and it’s always exciting to meet fans for the first time. It’s always such a magical moment.

Which song in your new album Humanoid do you think describes you best?
Bill: I think there’re a lot of songs that describe us well. We have ‘Alien’ that describes the feeling we have sometimes, including the feelings Tom and I had during our childhood. ‘World Behind My Wall’ is another song that describes our life.
Tom: In general, every song is something that’s come out of our lives, so every song is a personal song.
Georg and Gustav: Yeah, it’s the same for us.

You guys look so cool all the time. How ordinary are you?
Bill: We’re all different and we each do our own thing; it was never an issue for us.
Tom: And we don’t look cool all the time. I mean, you should see Georg at night with his pajamas…
Bill: … and with his teddy bear. I’d always liked doing my own thing, trying new things out, and having lots of fun with it. And Georg doesn’t so… (Georg laughs)

It is difficult not to fall even deeper in love with Tokio Hotel. Let us all hope they come back to Singapore soon.
